Her mother ran her own dance school, and was a member of Dance Masters of America. She took dance classes, along with music lessons, figure skating, and art classes, and ultimately fell in love with teaching, as she never enjoyed performing. She launched her first dance company when she was 14, and opened her own school in 1980. She is recognized for having turned out a massive number of working dancers, including a number of Broadway performers, and multiple successful commercial dancers and choreographers. Since 2011, she has been the subject of the reality series, Dance Moms on Lifetime. The show follows Ms. Millers life, and the training schedule of a few of her more gifted students and their parents. It is currently in its second season, and a spin-off, Dance Moms: Miami, began airing in 2012.
